The Social Ministry Committee is involved with many worthwhile ventures to meet the needs of our Good Shepherd family and the community. Anyone interested in serving with this team or would like to offer suggestions, please contact a committee member or call the church office. We would welcome your participation!
Meals-on-Wheels
This Wheeling Township community program provides hot/cold meals to shut-ins in the area. Volunteer drivers from Good Shepherd participate by delivering these meals on weekdays during one month of the year.
Share Your Abundance
The Food Pantry in the narthex is often filled to the brim. Deliveries of food and clothing are ongoing, and these much-needed donations are distributed through Wheeling Township. Also, at Thanksgiving time, the congregation responds by providing for food gifts and support of ELCA World Hunger Fund.
Christmas-in-July
This event has become a Good Shepherd tradition and benefits children served by the Prospect Heights Community Center. Our gift tree, with its red, white and blue tags and decorations, offers the congregation an opportunity to provide much needed items. The Social Ministry Committee is responsible for this event, and transports many gifts to the Center.
Christmas Gift Tree
Traditionally, our Christmas Gift Tree (shown in the picture above) in December offers Good Shepherd’s Santa’s helpers the fun of shopping for specific gifts for 40+ youngsters at LSSI’s Rogers Park Headstart Program in Chicago. In addition, many gifts are given for needy children and distributed through the Prospect Heights Community Center.
